Paleobiology
Processes and patterns in the evolution of microscopic and macroscopic life through time: extinction, evolution and diversification as recognized from the fossil record. Major events in the history of life. The relationship of biotas to depositional systems: paleoecology, biostratigraphy and paleobiogeography. The use of statistical approaches to describe, and test hypotheses about, the fossil record. Laboratories and field trips provide illustrative fossil examples.
